Will getting a Sallie Mae Loan help my credit score when I have a cosigner??

I am forced to have to get a loan. I need to get a cosigner. Will this improve my credit score at all?? I have had bad credit in the past and want to get my rating up. Alot of people say a car is the way to go to improve but I can't do that now. A couple of companies that I have had accounts with in the past have sent me small balance credit cards and I am paying them off pretty much right away.
